Melting Moments

I love food.

I can include recipes for anything featured on this site or give tips if anyone is interested. Feel free to make comments, suggestions or request recipes or tips in the comments section at the bottom of the page.

Many more recipes to come.

Japanese food

This is a plate of gyoza and teriyaki chicken sushi.

Not being able to find the gyoza wrappers anywhere I made them by hand and was surprised how easy to make they were and how delicious.

I also make and have some great recipes and tips for teriyaki chicken, agedashi tofu, Japanese colslaw, Japanese potato salad, kara-age chicken, good tenpura, katsu and a heap of good tips and hints for perfect sushi rice, california rolls and more traditional hand rolled sushi and inari zushi.

I have finally perfected a passable miso soup, turns out I was over complicating things, and found a Japanese supermarket just down the road from where I work. So look forward to some good Japanese food posts because I love Japanese food!!!

Baby Croquembouche

Here is my cut down, rough version of a Croquembouche made using the recipe from the Australian version of Masterchef. I made a one third mixture.

We had a “bring a plate” day at work,  and my work mates joked that I must bring a croquembouche. So I did…

Surprisingly I found this quite easy to put together. Then again I didn’t have any time constraints, but the third mix only took me two and a half hours. I even got a load of clothes washed and hung at the same time.

Christmas Cake

Here is one of the Christmas cakes I  made for gifts for people this year.

The cake itself is a rich fruit cake soaked in scotch with a small amount of good brandy  and cointreau for flavour. The cake has a thin layer of roasted almond and ammaretto marzipan. and the icing and flowers are finished in fondant.

I can upload the recipe for the traditional heavy fruit cake, it is ideal for wedding cakes.

The fondant icing is simple to make and is great for all sorts of different kinds of cake decorating. It really is a great recipe and great to have as part of your cooking arsenal.
